Academic Scholarship Application

Purpose:

The YULF Academic Scholarship aims to support promising student-athletes who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to their education while actively participating in judo at SJSU. This scholarship is intended to help athletes balance their academic pursuits with their judo training and competition.

YULF Mission:
1. Support amateur judo athletes in achieving academic and athletic excellence.
2. Provide student-athletes with opportunities and experiences that help them gain real-world business experiences.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicant must be admitted to or currently enrolled at SJSU (as a full-time student), another accredited institution, or a community college, maintaining good academic standing, and actively pursuing an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or higher while training full-time with the SJSU Judo team.

  • Applicant must be actively training with the SJSU Judo team full-time and claim SJSU Judo as their dojo in competitions and training camp registrations.

  • Applicant must maintain a minimum of 12 units at SJSU, which is required for collegiate competition eligibility.

  • Applicants must attend and actively participate in at least 95% of judo practices and events

  • At YULF, we support students who demonstrate financial need for academic scholarships. Applicants must complete this application, provide financial background information, and share a personal statement about their financial situation and academic aspirations. Our review committee carefully evaluates each application to ensure fair decisions, helping deserving students achieve their educational goals.

  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need for support to cover the cost of expenses related to education (application fees, tuition payments, books & supplies).

  • Scholarship amounts are based on the GPA from the previous full-time semester.

  • Non-SJSU full-time students may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on unit load and school requirements.

  • GPA requirement to apply is 3.0 (exceptions may be made with strong letters of recommendation) and the applicant must be in good academic standing.
