    Furthermore, SJSU Judo alumni have excelled as award-winning producers and engineers, showcasing the diverse talents and capabilities nurtured within the program, underscoring SJSU Judo’s profound impact beyond the mat in shaping leaders and innovators across industries.

    Olympic Legacy

    SJSU Judo has fostered a distinguished legacy of judo excellence on the Olympic stage with students consistently showcasing remarkable talent under the guidance of Head Coach Yosh Uchida.

    From the inaugural 1964 Tokyo Games where Coach Uchida coached the first-ever Olympic judo team with SJSU Judo alums Paul Maruyama and Ben Nighthorse Campbell, to recent editions, where SJSU students-turned-Olympians like Bobby Berland, Kevin Asano, Mike Swain, Marti Malloy, and most recently, Colton Brown at Tokyo 2020, have continued to leave an indelible mark on the sport.

    Future Legacy

    Looking ahead, the SJSU Judo program remains committed to cultivating an alumni network of athletes who blend education with sport, ensuring a holistic approach to personal and professional development.

    With an eye on the future, SJSU Judo will continue to empower students to excel both on the mat and in their academic pursuits in order to shape individuals who will not only achieve success in their athletic endeavors but also make meaningful contributions to their communities.

    With the 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games in Los Angeles in a few years, SJSU Judo remains dedicated to fostering a legacy of excellence where education and sport intersect.
